Angel Central's £10 Santa's grotto sold out in 2025; its page went live on 9 October. Where to meet Santa in Islington, last year's prices, and when to book.

Islington has two ticketed Santa’s grottos and a run of free council events where Santa drops in. None has announced 2026 dates yet. The one to watch is Angel Central’s grotto, which opened for the first time in 2025 at £10 a child and sold out. Its page went up on 9 October last year, so the first half of October is when to look for 2026 tickets.

Everything below is from the organisers’ own websites, read on 25 September 2026.

The quick answer

  • Angel Central, Parkfield Street: £10 a child in 2025, sold out. It ran from 14 November to Christmas Eve, and tickets were not sold on the door.
  • Islington Play Village, North Road, N7: £21 a child in 2025, an hour of crafts plus a visit to Santa, on three December weekends.
  • Free: the council’s town-centre festive events last year each had Santa handing out mince pies and toys.

Angel Central Santa’s grotto

Angel Central, the shopping centre at 21 Parkfield Street, N1 0PS, ran its first ever grotto in 2025. From its 2025 grotto page, published on 9 October 2025:

  • Dates: opened Friday 14 November, 11am to 5pm, and ran through November and December, closing at 4pm on Christmas Eve.
  • Price: £10 per child, plus a small transaction fee. Up to two adults per paying child go free.
  • Ages: 2 to 12. Babies under 2 need no ticket and can be in the photo with a paying sibling, but get no gift.
  • The visit: 15-minute slots, with about three minutes per child with Santa and a gift to take home. There is no professional photographer, so bring a charged phone.
  • Booking: online only; no walk-ins. Refunds need 48 hours’ notice, and the booking fee is not refunded.
  • SEND sessions: quieter sessions with no background music, every Sunday at 11am (SEND sessions).
  • Where: first floor, to the right at the top of the escalators, with full wheelchair access.

By the time we checked, the page said “Santa’s Grotto is SOLD OUT!”, with any cancelled tickets released on the booking page. The centre also held Angel’s Christmas lights switch-on in 2025; see Islington Christmas lights switch-on.

Parking: the grotto page quotes Angel Central’s underground parking at £20 a day. Check the centre’s current rates before you drive, or see parking in Islington.

Islington Play Village Santa’s grotto, North Road

Run by the Gower School Nursery at 28 North Road, N7 9GG, which it describes as a minute’s walk from the Caledonian Park clock tower. Last year’s details, still on its website:

  • Dates: weekends only, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7, 13 and 14, and 20 and 21 December 2025, 10am to 6pm.
  • Price: £21 per child, including a £1 booking fee; adults free. A family group is up to three children and two adults.
  • The visit: a one-hour session of Christmas crafts and stories, then a family visit to Father Christmas with a gift chosen from the ages and interests you give when booking. A framed photo is sold separately; your own photos are welcome.
  • Relaxed sessions: quieter slots with smaller numbers and no background music, listed at 9.15am on each day, which is earlier than the 10am start given elsewhere on the page.
  • Practical: online booking only; refunds with two days’ written notice, less £1 a ticket. Buggy storage is outside, so bring two bike locks. No food on site and no dogs except service dogs.

The site still shows the 2025 weekends. The 2026 equivalents would be 5 and 6, 12 and 13, and 19 and 20 December, but that is our reading of the calendar, not an announcement.

Free: Santa at the council’s festive events

In 2025 Islington Council held five free town-centre festive events in Archway, Whitecross Street, Clerkenwell, the Cally and Chapel Market, with Santa handing out complimentary mince pies and toys at each (Islington Life). The full 2025 list, with times, is on our Islington Christmas markets page. The 2026 programme has not been announced.

Christmas shows for small children

If the grottos sell out, Little Angel Theatre’s Scruff’s Christmas Adventure for ages 3 to 6 and King’s Head Theatre’s family pantomime are already on sale: see Islington pantomime and Christmas shows. The London Canal Museum’s December boat trips to see the King’s Cross lights are on our London Canal Museum at Christmas page.

Still to be confirmed

  • Early to mid October: whether Angel Central’s grotto returns, its dates and price. Last year’s page went live on 9 October 2025.
  • October to November: Islington Play Village’s 2026 weekends.
  • November: the council’s 2026 festive events.
