Islington's Remembrance service starts 10.45am on Islington Green on 8 November, then Spa Green Garden at noon and Manor Gardens at 1.30pm. 2026 details pending.
Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November. In each of the last two years Islington has run the same three services: Islington Green at 10.45am, Spa Green Garden at noon, and Royal Northern Gardens off Holloway Road at 1.30pm. The council had not published its 2026 programme when this page was written on 5 September, and on past form it will appear in the last week of October or the first days of November.
Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November 2026.
The three services, as the council has run them
Islington Council’s releases for 2025 and 2024 describe an identical programme both years:
Islington Green, 10.45am. The Mayor of Islington, councillors and representatives of local Armed Forces and civilian organisations begin proceedings for the Service of Remembrance. It includes a two-minute silence, prayers led by faith leaders, military bugle calls, and an opportunity for anyone attending to lay a wreath at the Islington Green War Memorial. A parade forms part of the commemorations.
Spa Green Garden, 12 noon. A Remembrance service near the junction of Rosebery Avenue and Gloucester Way, Clerkenwell. Open to all residents.
Royal Northern Gardens, Manor Gardens, 1.30pm. A community Remembrance ceremony beside Holloway Road. The council’s report on the 2025 day describes readings and music at both of the later gatherings.
The Mayor of Islington for 2026 to 2027 is Councillor Rosaline Ogunro, with Councillor Jilani Chowdhury as Deputy Mayor. The Mayor leads the Islington Green service and lays a wreath on behalf of the council.
Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November
The council also marks Armistice Day itself. Its photographs from 2025 record an Armistice Day service held outside Islington Town Hall on Upper Street on Tuesday 11 November. No time has been published for the equivalent service in 2026.
Poppies
The Mayor’s office supports the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. In both 2024 and 2025 the council said poppies could be bought at the Town Hall reception and at the council’s Customer Contact Centre, 222 Upper Street.
Getting there
Islington Green sits between Upper Street and Essex Road, a two-minute walk from Angel station on the Northern line. Almost every Upper Street bus stops within sight of it: the 4, 19, 30, 38, 43, 56, 73, 153, 214, 274 and 341 all run past.
Spa Green Garden is closer to Angel from the Rosebery Avenue side, and Manor Gardens is a short walk from Holloway Road station on the Piccadilly line.
Do not plan on driving. Islington’s controlled parking is priced on emissions and a Sunday morning near Upper Street is the wrong place to look for a space. Our parking page sets out the tariff, and the roadworks and travel page covers current closures.
What is not yet confirmed for 2026
- The 2026 programme itself. The council announced on 3 November in 2025 and 30 October in 2024, so expect it in that window. It will appear on islington.media.
- The parade route and any road closure. The council’s releases describe a parade as part of the commemorations but have never printed a route, and nothing had been published for 2026 by 5 September.
- Armistice Day timings at the Town Hall.
This page will be updated as each is published. For everything else happening in the borough this season, see things to do in Islington.
